Tokyo Travel Guide: Neighbourhoods & Day Trips

tokyo near cities

Tokyo is less one city than a collection of distinct neighbourhoods — Shibuya’s neon energy, Asakusa’s traditional temples, and Shinjuku’s skyscrapers all feel like different cities connected by an excellent metro.

Suggested Route (5–6 Days)

  • Days 1–2 — Shibuya & Shinjuku: The famous crossing, and skyscraper views from the Metropolitan Government Building.
  • Day 3 — Asakusa: Senso-ji Temple and the traditional shopping street leading up to it.
  • Day 4 — Akihabara & Harajuku: Electronics and anime culture, then youth fashion and crepe stands.
  • Days 5–6 — Nikko or Kamakura day trip: Mountain shrines or a giant bronze Buddha, both easy day trips.
